Abstract

501,347. Jointing pipes to mains &c. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., MEAKIN, T. W., and FOWLER, C. R. Aug. 25, 1937, No. 23295. [Class 99 (i)] A nipple for jointing a pipe to a wall d of a tank or the like has, for connection to the pipe, a spigot or socket a extending outwardly from a hexagonal part f and a portion c having internal beads b, b<1> and an external screwthread for screwing it into an opening in the wall, the beads being located, when the nipple is screwed up, one at each side of the opening and expandable to grip the wall. The beads are expanded by a tool g drawn through the nipple by turning a nut h screwed on to the tool stem g<1>. The nut bears either against the spigot or socket, or when the wall of the spigot or socket is too thin to withstand the forces due to the expanding operation the nut bears against a sleeve j, as shown. The nut may have a part i for centring it within the spigot or socket and/or the sleeve. Specification 236,308, [CLass 99 (i)],is referred to,
