501,074. Diamond tools. MULLER, W. Sept. 10, 1937, No. 24696. Convention date, July 5. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] Diamonds are set by hot pressing in a mixture of metallic powders, one constituent of which remains solid but becomes plastic at the temperature of heating, whilst the other becomes liquid and forms a " solder for the other constituents. In one example a mixture of iron powder with 15 per cent of copper is heated to just above 1000‹ C. For fine diamonds a mixture of copper with aluminium, bismuth, or lead is used. To harden the mixture tantalum, titanium or vanadium, or their carbides are added.
