[Class 83 (iv)] The riveted seams of the sheets 2 forming the shell of a gasholder or like container are sealed against leakage by means of channel like members with side flanges welded to the sheets to enclose the seam and the rivets, said members being shaped to fit together at the junctions therebetween with mitred or curved welded joints or junction elements being provided shaped to fit the members at the junction and welded thereto. In one form, Fig. 1, channel members 3 with outwardly extending longitudinal flanges 4 are welded over the seams 1 along the edges 7 and where the various members 3 meet, the ends 5 are mitred and welded together at 6. In another form, Fig. 5, a through channel member 3b is cut away at the sides for the insertion of the ends 12 of cross members 3 and the joint welded at 13. In another form the ends of the cross members are mitred and welded down on to the through member. Fig. 6 shows a construction in which the joint between the members 3 is overlapped by a junction element 14 welded to the channel members around its edges. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 11, the channel members 3 may be butted against a junction element 14 and the butted joints welded at 18.
