Abstract

500,596. Electric control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 10, 1937, No. 24737. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1936. [Class 40 (i)] In a system for con trolling a searchlight 3 in accordance witl the movements of e sound locator 1, coarse and fine transmitters 5, 6 operated in accordance with the move ments as corrected in an evaluating equipment 4, control indicators 7, 8 and also a receiver 10 which operates a transmitter 12 for controlling the motors 13, 14 of the telescope 2 and searchlight 3. The transmitter 12 comprises contacts 20, Fig. 3, operated through differential mechanism 11 by the receiver 10 and adapted when displaced to co-operate with an oscillated contact 22 to generate in the field windings of the motor, impulses the duration of which depends on the displacement. The motors are thus driven until the contact 20 is restored by the shaft 19 driven by the motor 13. The motors may be controlled alternatively by a manuallyoperated follow-up switch which may be connected to the motors by the change-over switch 16. The motors 13, 14 are geared to interconnected motors 17, 18 of the selsyn type which maintain the motors 13, 14 in synchronism. The receiver 10 may be dispensed with, the switch 12 being operated directly by the receiver 8.
