Abstract

500,470. Haymaking. NICHOLSON, A. C. Aug. 5, 1937, Nos. 18677/37, 14738/38, and 26774/38. (Class 6 (iii)] A swath turner, side delivery rake or like machine of the type in which rake bars extend between parallelly disposed staggered dises or flyers the planes of which are arranged at right angles to the line of draught has the end disc or flyer adjustable independently of the frame of the machine and of the other flyer by a pivotal movement about the axis of the second flyer. As shown in Figs. 1, 2, end discs 1, 2, 18, 19 carry pins 3 carrying sleeves 4 to which are attached tine bars 5. The discs 1, 18, are driven from the axle 9 through bevel gears and shafts 13, 14. The end disc 2 is provided with a boss 20 rotatably mounted on a pin 21 carried by a radius arm 22 pivotally mounted on a pin 23 fixed on a bar 24 secured to the main frame of the machine the pin 23 being in alignment with the axis of rotation of the disc 1. The disc 2 and the arm 22 may be swung to a desired position about the pin 23 and held in such position by a spring plunger mounted on the arm 22 entering one of a series of holes 25 provided in quadrant bars 29 between which the arm 22 moves : notches may be substituted for the holes 25. The end disc of each of the heads may be adjustable. In modifications the radius arm is extended and is fitted with a swivel wheel that may be set at a desired height : the radius arm may be cranked, the other end being connected by a chain to a hand lever for rocking the crank to raise or lower the pivot of the disc ; in this case the pin 23 may be moved laterally in a slot to adjust the width of the machine the mounting and gear box of the pivot of the other disc being-arranged to slide laterally to maintain a corresponding position ; a spring may be provided to take the weight of the adjustable head. The heads may turn the swaths in the same or in opposite directions and the adjustment may be provided for the auxiliary head on a machine having a main and an auxiliary head such as that shown in Specification 212,444, [Class 6 (iii)].
