Abstract

500,445. Saddles. BROOKS & CO., Ltd., J. B., and BRIDEN, H. S. Oct. 26, 1937, No. 29175. [Class 136 (iii)] The top of a cycle saddle is tensioned by means of gearing comprising a rotatable actuating-part disposed horizontally, or substantially horizontally, or extending laterally from the median plane of the saddle, so as to be readily accessible for manipulation. A screwthreaded tensioning-pin 3 is mounted non- rotatably in a shackle 4 at the front end of the underframe and also engages a depending part of a peak plate 5 secured to the top 1. The shackle.4 is of hook form to engage beneath the U-shaped front end of the underframe 2, and has lateral extensions 4a engaging over the branches of the latter. An internally screw-threaded worm-wheel 6 engages the threaded part of the pin 3, and is actuated by a horizontal worm 7 provided with a head for operation by a screw-driver, spanner, . &c., whereby the tensioning-pin 3 is moved axially. The worm and worm-wheel are mounted in a housing 8 formed on, or non-rotatably attached to the shackle 4, as by ears 8a engaging over the edges of the front portion of the shackle. The worm and worm-wheel may be replaced by spur, bevel, &c. gearing.
