500,317. Blowpipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. Jan. 29, 1938, No. 2875. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1937. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] In a welding blowpipe, the welding jet has on either side thereof a flanking jet. The blowpipe tip may consist of a rectangular body T having two long parallel sides and two short inclined sides. A central welding jet 11 is provided together with flanking jets 13, preferably of smaller size, on each side thereof in a plane transverse to the seam and extending in a direction parallel to the short sides of the body. The under side of the nozzle is inclined as at 15 to provide a weld rod preheating jet 14, which is at an angle of 30‹ to the main jets, and as at 17 to provide a pair of mutually divergent jets 16, each at an angle of 55‹ to the main jets to preheat the work in advance of the main jets. In a modification, the body may be welded to a separate nipple and may have a large central passage from which the jet passages proceed adjacent the front of the tip. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a single work preheating jet may be used and more than one rod preheating jet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
