Abstract
500,124. Liquid-meters ; valves. MECHANICAL & GENERAL INVENTIONS CO., Ltd. (M.A.G.I.C., Ltd. (France), Soc. Anon.) Aug. 7, 1937, No. 21786. [Classes 69 (i) and 135] In a liquid-meter of the type in which a measuring-chamber 8 discharges through a siphon 21 into a delivery chamber 9, the siphon delivering into a pivotally-mounted perforated trough or cup 29 controlling the inflow valve 13 of the measuring- chamber, the cup 29 closes the valve 13 positively when the liquid is delivered to it. In the meter shown, the stem 12 of the valve 13 rests on an arm 31 projecting from the pivoted cup 29, the weight of the valve stem &c. overbalancing that of the cup when it is empty so that the valve remains open until the chamber 8 is filled, when the siphon commences to act and fills the cup, causing the latter to sink and close the valve positively. The valve is also closed when the chamber 9 is full by means of a pivoted float 32, which rises and causes a projection 321 on the float arm to raise the arm 31. The pear-shaped oppositely-directed chambers 8, 9 are formed in a cast body 7 and closed at the front by a cover-plate 10. The siphon 21 is formed by a groove in one of the end walls of the casting covered by a plate 24. A pivoted float 25 operates mechanically or electromagnetically at each filling of the measuring-chamber an indicator or totalizer 19, or both, housed in a chamber formed in the casting 7.
