391,641. Rotary meters. BERGER, A., 2, Meineckestrasse, Breslau, Germany. June 24, 1932, No. 17849. [Class 110 (ii).] Apparatus for preventing the flow of liquid through a meter at a rate which is insufficient to permit of accurate measuring, comprises a valve beyond the meter which is operated by the pressures on its opposite sides ; damping means associated with this valve or an auxiliary valve are provided. The form shown in Fig. 2. which may be used in inverted position, if slightly modified, has a diaphragm 3 constituting the main valve separating the inlet 1 from the outlet 2, and provided with a small perforation 6 ; the pressure area of the upper surface is greater than that of the lower so that the valve is normally seated. An auxiliary valve 11 controls communication between the chamber 5 and a liquid-filled chamber 8 connected to the outlet 2 by a passage 23. When the pressure in the chamber 8 falls to a low value, that in the chamber 5 raises the valve 11 against the action of a pivoted loading member 12 carrying a damping plate 16 ; the pressure in the chamber 5 thus decreases, and the inlet pressure opens the valve 3. A byepass 17 is opened, when the valve 11 has performed part of its stroke. In other forms, the damping means comprise a dashpot member 25, Fig. 7, with or without grooves 27, 30 acting on the auxiliary valve 11, or a dashpot member 33, Fig. 9, acting on the main valve. In the form shown in Fig. 10, the spindle of the valve 11 contacts with a pivoted casing 40 containing a ball 39.
