Abstract

500,093. Extrusion machines. BRITISH THOMSON HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 24, 1938, No. 15472. Convention date, May 26, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] An extrusion device for covering electric conductors &c. with plastic material comprises a die having a central extrusion opening and a plurality of auxiliary passages surrounding the same for equalizing the flow of material. The material is fed by a worm 2 into a chamber 3 in one side of which a steel die 13 is retained by a threaded sleeve 9 while the other side is fitted with a guide holder 7 supporting a tubular sleeve 11. The die 13 contains a central opening 20 which determines the diameter of the covering and a plurality of smaller holes 21 which are arranged round the opening 20 and diverge outwardly from the chamber 3. A leader 12, secured to the end of the sleeve 11, is also supported in the die housing and has a central hole 25 for guiding the conductor wire and a number of parallel passages 26, arranged concentrically therearound, through which the material is fed. The die 13 and leader 12 have conical surfaces facing each -other. In a modification, Fig. 3, the passages 26 may be open on the outside and may lead into spaces 28 which reduce the resistance to the flow of material.
