[Class 27] A car parking time meter comprises a casing 10, Figs. 3 and 4, in which a vertical rod 18 of square section is slidably mounted in brackets 17 and has at its upper end a bar 19 carrying indicator discs 20 which show through glazed apertures 13 in the front and rear walls of the casing when the rod is raised. The rod is raised by rotating a shaft 25 carrying a segmental cam 26 engaging a slot 24 in the rod, which is then held in its raised position by a spring detent 22 engaging a notch 21. The forward rotation of the shaft 25 winds a cord 29 on a drum 28 and tensions a spring 31, so that the shaft 25 is slowly rotated in the reverse direction by the spring 31, a clockwork mechanism being provided in known manner to control the speed of the return rotation. At the end of the time allowed for parking, the cam 26 disengages the detent 22 and the rod 18 drops to remove the discs 20 from the windows 13. The shaft 25 is rotated in the forward direction by a shaft 32 having an outside handle working between two fixed stops 39 which limit the movement to half a revolution, the shaft 32 also having a collar 34 with two axially projecting pins 36 which engage a transverse pin 37 passing through the shaft 25. Actuation of the shaft 32 is prevented until a coin is inserted through a slot 14. Coin action, weight.-The coin drops to a holder 40 on one end of a pivoted lever counterbalanced by a weight 45. The lever is thereby tilted to withdraw a detent finger 47 from the push of a pin 49 projecting from the shaft 32. The pin 49 during the turning of the shaft 32 moves aside a spring 41 to withdraw a pin from the coin holder 40 and allow the coin to drop.
