Abstract

Counting-apparatus; transfer mechanism.-In an electric speed indicator and odometer the total distance run is registered on a counter 10 driven by the rotor through worm gearing. Each numeral wheel is formed with ratchet teeth 11 and carries a pivoted pawl 12 off-set to engage the neighbouring wheel. The wheels are normally held by detents 14 but at transfer the pawl of the lower wheel passes under the detent foreing it clear of the higher wheel and at the same time driving this wheel to the extent of one tooth. The trip counter consists of a pointer 9, Fig. 8, with a transfer to a numeral disc 45 exposed at an opening in the dial. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also contains the following : Transfer-mechanism ; zeroizing-mechanism.- The trip pointer spindle is rigid with a gear wheel 31, Figs. 8 (Cancelled) and 9 (Cancelled), receiving the drive and provided with a transfer pin 38 which at each rotation engages a notch 40 in a pawl 39 slidably pivoted at 42. The pawl is thus carried along with the pin to the position shown, a lug 39<2> sliding over the next tooth of the disc 45. When by continued rotation the pin leaves the pawl, a spring 43 withdraws the pawl to its original position thus effecting transfer. In order to zeroize this counter a spindle 25 is turned so as through a notched disc 28 to pick up a pawl 33 mounted on the wheel 45 and return this to zero. At the end of this movement the tail 37 of the pawl strikes an upper lug 39<1> on the transfer pawl and consequently terminates the rotation of the wheel and at the same time throws the pawl out of engagement with the notched disc. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
