Abstract

286,594. A. C. Spark Plug Co., (Assignees of Helgeby, R. 0.). March 5, 1927, [Convention date]. Counters actuated by revolving mechanism.- The trip and total distance registers of a speedometer are driven from the rotary transmission mechanism by means of an eccentrically mounted arm adapted to drive directly one of the registers and carrying a member to actuate the other register, one in each direction of movement. As show in Figs. 1 and 2, a driving shaft 18 with a worm 20 is attached to the usual flexible driving member (not shown) and through a flexible shaft 22 drives the speed-sensitive mechanism. The worm 20 gears with a worm wheel 26 on a shaft 24 carrying an eccentrically mounted arm 28 the free end 30 of which acts as a pawl to actuate the ratchet wheel 32 of the total or season's counter 35. A second pawl 38 pivotally mounted at the end of the arm 28 and under the control of a spring 50 actuates on the return movement of the arm the ratchet wheel 40 of the trip counter 44. Detent means for the ratchet wheels is constituted by the bent ends 58, 60 of a spring member 56 secured to the frame.
