Abstract
498,826. Wall plugs. RAWLINGS, J. J., and RAWLPLUG CO., Ltd. July 13, 1937,No. 19368. [Class 89 (i)] A tubular wall plug is provided at its outer end with a conical or flared portion 3 and a flanged portion 2 extending at right-angles to the axis of the plug, and two or more slots 4 extend inwardly from the outer periphery of the flanged portion and terminate at the inner periphery of the conical portion. The body portion 1 of the plug may be provided with two or more axial slits 5 forming extensions of two or more, but not all, of the slots 4, the slits 5 extending almost to the inner end 6 of the plug. The walls of the flanged portion 2 may be thinner than those of the conical portion 3, and the .latter may be thinner than those of the body part 1. The inner end 6 may be closed by an end wall, it may be compressed, or it may have a reduced bore. The complete bore may be tapered inwardly. The exterior surface of the plug may be formed with longitudinal ribs 8, with or without longitudinal ribs on the interior surface, and the slits 5 may be replaced by longitudinal grooves on the interior surface. The plug may be formed by moulding or die-casting lead, fibrous material, or synthetic resin, or it may be bent up from sheet metal to form a closed inner end and two sides which interlock on longitudinal lines. The Provisional Specification refers to the use of a single slit 5.
