Abstract
498,623. Tractor wheels. KNIGHT, F. B., and BRAMBLE, W. H. Oct. 30, 1937, No. 29702. [Class 144 (i)] The strakes s of a tractor or like wheel are disposed in radial guide grooves 7 in a disc 5, connected to or integral with the wheel 6 and coupled by a bolt 9 to a rotatable disc 10 in which a spiral groove 12 is formed with which pins or the like p, at the inner ends of the strakes, engage. The strakes are adjusted by rotating the disc 10, which may be clamped in any desired position by the engagement of a spring-loaded pin 33 in one of a series of holes in the disc 5. The strakes are of rectangular cross section, and their inner ends are cut obliquely at 15, Fig. 3, in order that when they are fully retracted, the oblique side 15 of each strake may abut against the longitudinal edge 16 of the adjacent strake. The outer end of the spiral 12 is connected to the periphery of the disc 10 by a radial slot 20, by means of which the strakes may be successively inserted in position. A pad 18 of rubber or like compressible material is provided in a recess 19 near the outer end of each of the radial guide grooves 7 to ensure a firm fit of the strake between the discs 6, 10, and to prevent rattle and the entry of dirt and moisture.
