[Class 132 (iii)] A figure 42, Fig. 1, rigidly mounted on a wheeled platform 10 has arms 50 carrying hammers 56, the arms being mounted for horizontal and vertical movements so that the hammers 56 strike the musical bars 60 in succession. The figure is provided with a recess 44 for loosely receiving a shaft 46 comprising a pair of cylindrical thimbles 47 and a pin 48 on which are pivotally mounted the arms 50 having guide staples 54 substantially wider than the arms 40 carrying the hammers 56 to allow of limited recoil of hammers 56 from bars 60 and prevent binding of the mechanism. The horizontal and vertical movements of the arms 50 is effected through the crank and link mechanism shown in Fig. 2. The axles 16 and 18 actuating the link mechanism may be rotated at different speeds by providing wheels 17, 19 of different diameter so that the arms 50 are moved differently. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the horizontal movement of the arms 50 is effected from the member 80 rigidly embracing the pin 48 at one end 82 and embracing at the other end 84 an inclined portion 28 of the axle 16 actuating the links 30 connected to the arms 40. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the shaft 46 is rotatable about a pin 90 and the arms 50 are given horizontal and vertical movements from links 30 inclined to the vertical and engaging offset sections 20 and 22 of the axle 16.
