Abstract

496,744. Forming paper -pulp yarns and rovings. SHERMAN, J. C. March 1, 1937, No. 6089. Void. Convention date, March 4, 1936. [Class 120 (iii)] Pulp rovings are produced by forming from paper making pulp upon an endless foraminous carrier or screen a number of separate parallel ribbons having a high water content, reducing the water content by heat with or without the aid of suction, rubbing the ribbons while on the carrier to convert them into rovings and further drying the rovings. The pulp stock flows from a vat 4, Fig. 1, on to an endless screen 7 which extends around a cylindrical mould 8 having a suction quadrant 8a, the pulp ribbons 10 formed on screen 7 being compacted at 10a over a suction box 11 and heated by gas jets at 13. The screen 7 passes downwardly over rollers 14 in proximity with an endless belt 18 constituting a rubbing device, the rovings 10c then passing over the rods 19 of a festoon dryer which are actuated by chain systems 20..23 the rovings at 10d being sufficiently dry to be wound on a warp beam 24. In a modification, the screen 7 extends in a curve 7a to rollers 26a, 26b, 27, Fig. 2, and is provided with additional heaters 13.
