[Class 138 (ii)] In a press-type wringer the goods to be wrung are placed within a chamber, the walls of which are defined, in part, by elastic sheeting which is expanded by the admission of fluid under pressure to the side remote from the goods. In the form shown in Fig. 1, fluid under pressure is admitted by a three-way tap 26 to the space between a rigid cylinder 11 and a cylindrical elastic sheet 12 secured thereto, thereby expanding the latter and compressing the goods housed within the elastic container, the expressed water passing through perforations in the cover 23 and base 15. The cover is secured by a bayonet joint arranged within a flanged annular channel 14 which secures the upper end of the elastic cylinder to the rigid cylinder and is provided with pipes 16 which are secured to the rigid frame 17 by nuts. The bayonet joint permits a limited upward movement of the cover to facilitate the discharge of the water to the channel 14. The lower end of the elastic cylinder is clamped to the rigid cylinder by the flanged base-plate 15, and the expressed water collects in a tray 18 having an outlet 19. In another form, the rigid cylinder may be built up from alternating perforated and imperforate segments, the elastic lining being provided over the imperforate portions only, thereby increasing the area of the water discharge portion. Shapes other than cylindrical may be used and a perforated tube may extend into the chamber for increasing the area of the water discharge means. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the goods are housed within the annular chamber defined by a rigid cylinder 30 and an elastic element 32 which is secured around a perforated member 33 through which fluid under pressure is admitted to act on the inner face of the elastic element. The perforations may be formed by pressing out portions of the rigid cylinder in the form of bridges.
