Abstract

In a modification of the apparatus described and claimed in the parent Specification, a non-rotating filling vessel 12 is arranged above a rotary precipitation vessel into which the threads are discharged by a rotating nozzle, the filling vessel is displaceable in the direction of movement of the thread together with a part 1 of the precipitation vessel, and means are provided for automatically interrupting the feed of the precipitation liquid upon displacement of the said movable parts. The filling vessel 12 is connected by a flexible <PICT:0496268/IV/1> <PICT:0496268/IV/2> <PICT:0496268/IV/3> pipe 41 to a feed vessel 42 for precipitation liquid. The rotary vessel is in two parts 1, 30 connected by a bayonet joint 31, 32. The lower part carries the spinning nozzle 33. The vessel is rotated by a motor 35, spinning liquid being fed through a stationary rubber pipe 36 having a conical end entering a conical aperture in the rotary spindle 34. The filling vessel 12 has an extension 2 engaging by means of flange 3 in the mouth 4 of the precipitation vessel. The mouth 4 is covered by a rotatable disc 5 under which surplus precipitation liquid may flow. An inner stationary tube 6 is secured in the extension 2 by ribs 13, 14, 15, Fig. 2. These ribs form apertures 7 which cause the precipitation liquid to flow through the extension 2 substantially axially and without rotation. A guide tube 8 rotates within the stationary tube 6 being secured frictionally to the rotating vessel by leaf springs 19, 20 engaging a recess 21. A stop in the recess 21 prevents slipping of the spring 19 if the friction should be insufficient. The tubes 6, 8 extend to a level slightly below the level of the liquid in the vessel 12. The bore of the guide tube 8 may be made sinuous to reduce the swirl of the column of liquid therein without diminishing the cross-section available for threading. A siphon tube 40, Fig. 4, permits the lower half 30 of the precipitation vessel to be filled preparatory to starting spinning. In a Specification laid open to inspection under Sect. 91, the arrangement according to Fig. 4 is described in closer detail. The guide tube through which the thread passes from the rotary to the stationary vessel is stated to be kept in position by three stays. Excess spinning liquid passes out at the connection between the part 1 of the rotary vessel and filling vessel 12, and may be collected by an enclosing jacket (not shown). The shape of the lower portion 30 is said to be such that when the lower vessel is open it may be emptied by centrifuging the liquid out over the sides. If desired instead of lifting the upper portion 1 of the rotary vessel, the lower portion and the electromotor may be lowered, a shutting-off device being arranged in the tube 41. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
