Abstract

518,134. Artificial silk. BERNDT, K. Aug. 16, 1938, Nos. 24170 and 24171. Convention dates, Aug. 16, 1937, and June 16, 1938. [Class 2 (ii)] Apparatus for rotary spinning of artificial threads in a closed precipitation vessel completely filled with liquid precipitating medium circulating through the vessel comprises means for rotating the spinning head and if desired also the precipitating vessel, two tubes one within the other extending upwardly from the crown of the vessel, means for supplying precipitating liquid to the annular conduit formed by the space between the tubes and causing it to flow downwardly into the precipitation vessel, means for leading the extruded threads upwardly through the inner tube together with the precipitating liquid, and means for adjusting the flow pressure of the liquid in the annular conduit in accordance with the rate of rotation of the vessel and/orthe spinning head. A supply vessel may be disposed so as to maintain a pressure head on the liquid in the annular conduit and it may be adjustable in position so as to regulate the pressure. The pressure may be adjusted automatically by means of a centrifugal pump, rotary screw, or similar device. As shown in Fig. 1, a vessel 1 contains rotating precipitating liquid. The cover 2 is provided with a tube 4 with openings 5 and a bored stopper 6. An inner tube 8 extends upwardly from stopper 6. The annular space 9 communicates with chamber 10 containing liquid under pressure. The tube 8 fits into an outflow vessel 14 with outflow opening 20. The chamber 10 may be connected to funnels adjustable in height so as to regulate the static pressure of the liquid. As shown in Fig. 4, a conveyer wheel 44 for the precipitating liquid is provided. As the outer and inner tubes rotate at the same speed the conveyer blades are connected to both tubes. The liquid circulates in the direction of the arrow 45. In another construction only the inner tube rotates with the spinning head, the outer tube and precipitation vessel being stationary. Helical pumping blades, fixed to the inner tube only, are provided. The fixed tube 51, Fig. 4, fitting over the tube 43 prevents liquid which enters the receiver 40 from being directly drawn again into the annular conduit. In another construction where both inner and outer tubes rotate, the short fixed tube 51 is provided with a stationary screw arranged in the annular space between the rotating tubes. As shown in Fig. 8, the inner rotating tube 66 carries the conveyer wheel 67 of a centrifugal pump. The receiver, 63, corresponding to receiver 40 of Fig. 4, has an opening which is closed by a neck-piece 69, having at its lower end a rubber seal 70. An inlet guide-wheel 73 is arranged within the opening of the receiver 63. This wheel has a tube 75 which prevents liquid which flows out of the precipitation vessel from being directly forced again by the pump through the outer tube 65.
