Abstract
496,023. Casting composite bearings. DAELEN, F., and LOOS, W., (trading as GLYCO-METALL-WERKE DAELEN & LOOS), and KOHLER, H. March 19, 1938, No. 8552. [Class 83 (i)] Casting - machines; metalpouring.-In casting compound bearings &c. a solid body b is introduced into a mould a, of graphite mixed with or without clay, 4 to 6 mm. thick, which is filled with borax or the like at 1200‹ C. When the body is at the same temperature as the borax, the copper-lead or other lining metal is poured in, displacing the borax, and the whole is cooled by placing in a water bath and directing a spray of water into the core. The body b is preferably provided with a hollow core c closed at its lower end c<1>, and preheated to about 500‹ C., the mould is electrically heated during and, for a time, after pouring and the support e or the ladle is rotated about the axis of the body during pouring. The mould is finally broken away and the body machined. The core may be of metal and be supported by lightly-welded angle pieces d or of the same material as the mould and preferably integral therewith. The mould may be tilted during pouring to avoid bubbles being trapped at bl.
