Abstract
495,711. Controlling aircraft and endless track vehicles. MERCIER, J. May 13, 1937, No. 13525. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXXI] Means for maintaining in step fluid-pressure operated concomitant-devices such as aircraft flaps, surfaces and landing-wheel brakes and brakes on endless-track vehicles, includes a slide-valve laterally and longitudinally balanced and connected with the control members of, e.g. the aircraft, so that movement of the member consequent upon the effect on the aircraft of lack of symmetry in the motion of the devices effects movement of the valve to bring the devices again into step. In one form, movement of a balanced valve 22 connects orifices 24, 241 to supply or exhaust respectively. The orifices 24, 24<1> are connected, respectively, to orifices 3, 5 of a valve-housing 1 in which the slide-valve 2 moves. Passages through the valve and grooves in the housing effect balancing of the valve. The valve 2 is grooved so that orifices 4, 4<1> connected to the operating- elements for the devices, on movement of the valve, are connected to supply or exhaust through ports 7, 7<1>, 11, 11<1>. Non-return valves are provided at the orifices 3, 5. In a modification, the port 7 is omitted, the valve being provided with two additional grooves which are connected. In a further modification, a grooved valve co-operates with a grooved housing so that without moving the valve, fluid may be supplied or exhausted merely by regulating the supply or exhaust. In this form leakage of fluid past the ends of the valve is recovered. In a still further modification, the valve is completely balanced in its mid-position and always tends, when moved, to return to that position. The valve may be fixed and the casing movable.
