Abstract

495,621. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. March 30, 1938, No. 9705. Convention date, March 30, 1937. [Class 108 (iii)] A hydraulic shock-absorber having a piston provided with a non-return valve opening on the up-stroke of the piston and having open throttling apertures, and a deformable container connected to the upper end of the cylinder and pistonrod for the accommodation of liquid with as little pressure as possible, is characterized by the feature that the interior of the deformable container is in permanently open communication with the cylinder, so as to provide a free passage for the working liquid which is expelled from the cylinder into the container on the down-stroke of the piston, and flows back again on the up-stroke of the piston. As shown a piston 14 on a rod 15 slides in a cylinder 11 and is perforated at 16 for the passage of fluid, the perforations being covered by a spring-pressed disc valve 17 provided with throttling orifices 20 operative on the rebound stroke of the vehicle springs. The upper end of the cylinder 11 is provided with a closure member 19 with free passages 24 through which an unobstructed flow of liquid takes place on the compression stroke of the vehicle springs. The resilient or flexible container 12 is sprung over or clipped to the piston rod collar 13 and to the cylinder 11 at 23. Instead of the closure member 19 an additional perforated piston may be attached to the rod to act as a guide.
