Abstract
495,590. Concrete floor and like structures. SANMUGANATHAN, S. Sept. 22, 1937, No. 25749. [Class 20 (iv)] An insert for a concrete layer, such as a floor or road, comprises a metal strip 11 having tongues 15 stamped out along its length of such shape and disposition that they can be readily bent to stand out to a definite and uniform extent beyond one of the side edges of the strip, so that, when the ends of the tongues rest upon an undersurface, the insert, being upright, is disposed at a specific height above such surface. When the concrete layer is cast, the strip will be disposed at a definite and predetermined position within the concrete. As shown in the Figure, the strip is provided with a series of stamped-out apertures 13 of elongated hexagonal shape. At intervals, for example at every other aperture, the stamping-out process is incomplete and leaves uncut one of the sides 14 which slopes at an angle of 45 degrees to the sides of the strip. The tongues can then be bent about the sides 14 through two right-angles until they lie flat against the surface of the strip and beyond the same as shown at 17. The ends of the tongues may be pointed or of dovetail form, and in the latter case they can be bent to provide feet. The side edges of the strip may be curled, and such curled edges may be disposed symmetrically with respect to the plane of the strip or wholly to one side thereof. The strip may be two inches wide, and the distance from the ends of the tongues to the centre line of the strip may also be two inches. Such a strip will be located centrally in a concrete layer which is four inches thick.
