494,511. Cupola &c. furnaces. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and SHEEHAN, J. J. April 23, 1937, No. 11587. Drawings to Specification. [Class 51 (ii)] A single shaft cupola or like melting-furnace having two widely separated tuyere zones is so operated that melting is effected at the upper set of tuyeres while the temperature at the lower set is such that the metal can be superheated or ferro-silicon can be formed. In a 40 ft. cupola the zones may be 10 ft. apart, and there may be two rings of tuyeres in each zone.
