[Class 36] [Also in Group XXXVII] A mercury switch comprises a container for the mercury made of ceramic material wherein any arcing which occurs is totally enclosed. Each electrode passes through an extension of the container, and is sealed therein by the fusing of a small mass of glass or metal having a suitable coefficient of expansion. Evacuation and filling may be effected through a metal or glass tube fused into the container, which may be glazed internally or externally.
