493,057. Respiratory appliances. BIEDERMAN, J. B. March 30, 1937, No. 9044. Convention date, April 11, 1936. [Class 81 (ii)] A mask 1 for use in cases of asthma and the like is formed with an inlet aperture 4 having in front of it electric precipitation means for pollen and like particles comprising one or more insulated. screens 11, 12, electrically polarized by connection to the poles of a dry cell 16 ; preferably two screens connected one to each pole are employed. The screens are of fine wire mesh secured in a ring and are mounted in a filter housing 6 provided with internal shoulders 9, 10, and having a screw-on retaining ring 8. Exhaling valves are provided in the upper part of the mask. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the use, in place of a cell for polarizing the screen or screens, of substances of negative polarization such as aluminium or iron hydroxide, or of positive polarization such as iron sulphide, the substances being applied to screens which may be of fabric or gauze. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
