492,894. Treating photographic prints. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges.) March 23, 1937, No. 8520. [Class 98 (ii)] To facilitate the washing of photographic prints free from the sodium thiosulphate. used for fixing, there is introduced into the paper support or the barytes or the emulsion before processing a water-soluble substance which is more strongly absorbed by the materials used in the production of the paper, especially the barytes, than the sodium thiosulphate and the soluble silver salts formed during fixing. The substances are preferably introduced during manufacture of the paper, but the paper may be impregnated with a solution at any time prior to developing. Suitable substances which do not affect the emulsion, or colour the barytes, are metaphosphoric acid or its salts, or polymers of these substances, and salts of the rare earths and thorium.
