Abstract
492,892. Feeding separate like articles in succession. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation) March 23, 1937, No. 8451. [Class 117] [Also in Group VII] A machine for rendering leather sole-blanks flexible comprises a pair of endless chains carrying gripping devices which drag each blank in turn between opposed bending rollers. Automatic feeding devices feed the blanks in timed relation to the travel of the chains. A pile of blanks S is inserted in a magazine M while this is tilted about a pivot 200 so that its front wall 204 is horizontal and a gravity follower 212 is retracted. The front wall has a slot for the ejection of the lowest blank, which slot is normally closed by a spring gate 218 with a bevelled lower edge pushed up by an advancing sole. Below the magazine is a guide 228 for a slide 230 itself carrying two slides 232, 234, the first linked to a cam-actuated arm 252 and the second carrying a pawl 262 projecting through a slot in the bottom of the magazine to engage the rear edge of the lowest blank, and yieldable counterclockwise against a spring. The slide 230 is urged towards a stop 242 by a spring 240, but has a stop 243 engaged by the slide 232. The slide 234 co-operates with a stop 256 on the slide 230 and also carries a roll 272, carried in a cage 274 having apartprojectingto the left of the slide and urged to the left by a spring. The roll co-operates with an inclined surface above it. The slide 234 is urged to the left by a spring 270. As the slide 232 moves to the left, the slide 230 moves to the stop 240 and the cage 274 is then engaged by the slide 232 to free the roll 272 and move the pawl 262 beyond the end of the lowest work-piece in the magazine. On the feeding movement of the slide 232, the slide 234 follows until it is stopped by the pawl 262 engaging the work-piece, at which point the slide 232 leaves the cage 272 and the slide 234 is locked to the slide 230. When the slide 232 reaches the stop 243, all three slides move to the left together, to feed the work-piece to the jaws 44, 46. The jaw 46 is opened to release the work by a fixed cam 55.
