Abstract
492,427. Harvesting beet and like roots. ENDRES, F. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 27940. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1936. [Class 6 (iii)] Beet and similar roots are harvested by ploughing an open furrow close to the row of roots to be lifted, the roots then being pressed sideways towards this furrow and finally raised to the surface. The harvesting implement comprises a ploughshare a behind which is arranged a push bar c carried by a stem b attached to the plough frame ; the tool c runs just below the ground surface and pushes the roots laterally towards the furrow. A lifting iron e is secured at the end of the plough base e to raise the displaced roots to the surface. A hook member may be fitted to make a groove deeper than the furrow when working in heavy or hard soils.
