492,273. Screw propellers. ROTH, L., and GOLDE, H. March 16, 1937, No. 7663. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1936. [Class 114] The edge and tip of each blade of a screw propeller is protected by a covering material 3 which is secured in position by two sets of wires 1, 2, running contrary to each other through holes in the cover and the blade 5. Instead of the cover being in one piece, it may be formed in sections 3a, 3b, 3c, and the stitching instead of being zigzag may be along a line parallel with the edge of the blade. The protective covering is slightly recessed where it receives the wire, and the grooves then filled up to form a flush surface. It is stated that the propeller blade itself may be of the form described in Specification 492,175.
