Abstract
491,972. Pivot pins. BARTLETT, B. G. W. March 17, 1937, No. 7890. [Class 65(ii)] The pivot-pin 10, Fig. 2, of a pair of surgical scissors has a hemispherical head 11 fixed in the blade 13 part of which protrudes from that blade and rests in a part spherical bearing recess in the blade 15. The pin portion also forms a part of the pivot bearing. In the pivot shown in Fig. 6, the pin 10 is fixed in the blade 15 and the lower portion of the spherical head lies in a spherical recess in the blade 15 whilst the upper portion rests in a spherical bearing surface in the blade 13. In the pivot of Fig. 2, the lower end of the pin 10 is T-shaped, 14, Fig. 1, and when the blades are wide open the T-shaped head can be passed through a slot 16 and the blades separated. Similarly, the spherical head of Fig. 6 is cut down to two opposed quadrants 22, Fig. 5, and corresponding slots are made in the spherical seating. Other shapes of similarly detachable pins are described, the pins and their bearing recesses may be protected by cover plates. Resilient washers may be included in the pivot assembly.
