491,703. Tanks. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP KONINKLIJKE MAATSCHAPPIJ DE SCHELDE SCHEEPSWERF EN MACHINEFABRIEK. Feb. 22, 1938, No. 5594. Convention date, March 10, 1937. [Class 69 (i)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXXIII] In welding plates, which together form a large uninterrupted surface supported by stiffeners, such as tank walls, the plates of each strake, e.g. 1, 2, are first welded to the stiffeners 6 and to each other, spaces 5 being left between the strakes, such spaces being then filled up by slightly curved strips 7 which are welded either at the outer side or at the inner side, as shown, to the strakes, the strips being straightened out by the contracting forces after welding, as shown in Fig. 5. The strips may then be welded to the stiffeners. The stiffeners are recessed at 8. In welding together the strakes 9, 10 of thicker plates, a curved strip is similarly welded to the strakes, whereupon one or more strips 12, 15 originally of cross-bow form are similarly welded in turn to the strakes and also welded through slots at 14 to each other.
