Abstract

4 : 41 - Diaminodiphenylsulphone is condensed with aryl or aralkyl aldehydes to produce anils, which may then be converted into their water-soluble sulphonic acid derivatives by reaction with sodium bisulphite. The products possess therapeutic properties. Examples are given of the treatment of the sulphone with (1) benzaldehyde to give the monobenzylidene derivative, (2) anisaldehyde to form 4-p-methoxybenzylideneamino-41-aminodiphenylsulphone, (3) 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde to produce the mono-anil, (4) cinnamic aldehyde to yield the di-anil, and (5) piperonal to give the mono-anil. In a further example (6), the product of (4) is treated with sodium bisulphite and yields a product of the formula <FORM:0491265/IV/1>
