Abstract

491,113. Bracelets. CARTIER SOC. ANON. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5465. Convention date, April 29, 1936. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 26, 1937.] [Class 43] An expanding bracelet in the form of a split ring is composed of a number of main elements such as 23, 24, 25, connected together by binding means such as 23<1>, 24<1> which are hinged at each end to the main elements and provided with cams 30 supported by springs 31 on the main elements. As shown, the binding means may penetrate the main elements and be pivoted to lugs on the inside thereof. The springs 31 may be leaf springs (as shown) or coil or torsional springs. The edges c, e of the apertures in the main elements through which the binding' means pass form stops to prevent the bracelet opening or closing too far. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an expanding bracelet in which a number of elements are hinged together to form a split ring and the hinge of one element, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), is formed with a central knuckle 7 which fits within a recess 8 in the adjacent element, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), between two knuckles 9, the element hinging on a pin passed through the knuckles 7, 9. Spring blades 12 fitted in recesses 11 in one element engage in recesses 10 in the other element and resist expansion of the bracelet. When using this form of hinge with large bracelets, V-shaped recesses may be cut in the outside of the bracelets at each hinge to allow pivoting of the various elements and the recesses may be covered by thin bent strips. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
