Abstract
490,780. Moulding concrete pipes &c. centrifugally. ABELES, P., BRAUNBOCK, E., and GRIMM, A. April 17, 1937, No. 11041. Convention date, April 17, 1936. [Class 87 (ii)] Hollow beams, pipes, &c. of concrete or other plastic materials are moulded centrifugally in a mould supported and frictionally driven by rollers, an idle roller for pressing the mould against the supporting rollers being mounted on a carrier which enables the roller to be moved aside so that the space above the mould is clear. In Fig. 1, the mould 1 has runners 2 resting on rollers 4 one or both of which are driven. The idle roller 8 is mounted on an arm 11 which is pivoted on a post 12 and has a notched free end engaging a post 13 so that it can be swung horizontally clear of the mould. Springs 14 and nuts 14a control the pressure of the roller 8 on the mould. The greater part of the machine is sunk in a pit in the foundation and the uprights 9 may be dispensed with, the beams 10 being supported directly on the foundation. In a modification, Fig. 7, the roller 8 is carried by an arm 17 pivoted on a horizontal shaft 5 and loaded by a weight 18 which is connected thereto by a cord 19 passing over a pulley 20 on the end of a lever 21. The lever raises the weight to the operative position. In another modification, Fig. 8, two rollers 8 are carried by arms 23 slidable horizontally by racks and pinions 25. The arms 23 may be downwardly inclined to increase the pressure applied to the mould. The runners 2 on the mould have joints comprising two overlapping tongues 3 which are chamfered off at 2<1> for half their length to ensure smooth running. Specification 168,762, [Class 83 (i)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification in which the arm 11 is pivoted about a horizontal axis and is held down by a weight or spring. The upright 9 may also be telescopic. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
