Abstract

<PICT:0490554/III/1> <PICT:0490554/III/2> <PICT:0490554/III/3> Modifications of the apparatus described in the parent Specification permit discharge of the divided fertilizer without danger of agglomeration. As shown in Fig. 1, the rotary divider 3 carrying knives 4 is fitted with pivoted scoops 6, into which the divided fertilizer falls. The scoops are normally retained in the position shown in Fig. 4, bearing against stops 16 by means of springs 11, but as they approach the discharge opening 7, pawls 15 thereon ride up a ramp, whereby the scoops are tilted to discharge their contents. Air supplied from a tube 10 and conduit 2 and from the opening 7 passes up the wall of the slab of fertilizer to assist removal of gases through the tube 9. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 6, the bottom of the rotating chamber is conical in form and the axis of the rotary divider 3 is inclined so that blades 18 sweep the divided material towards the exit without the fertilizer offering appreciable resistance. In a third form, the bottom of the chamber 5 is conical, the central part of the chamber carrying the discharge opening 7 is fixed and has an opposed conical base, and the divider 3 is mounted on a vertical axis. In this construction, the divided material falls by gravity to the discharge opening.
