Abstract

490,064. Composition fuel; materials for making coke. TOUSTOU, J. B. Feb. 17, 1937, No. 4830. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1936. [Classes 50 and 55 (ii)] Solid fuels such as coal, coke, semi-coke, lignite, or briquettes are treated with combustion catalysts obtained by the reaction in water of solutions or suspensions of metallic salts containing boron, chromium, iron and manganese, and of alkali metal or alkaline earth bases or corresponding salts, the product being evaporated to dryness and added either dry or in water or other solvent to the fuel which may afterwards be distilled at high or low temperature. Compounds of aluminium, calcium, magnesium, barium, or strontium may be substituted for sodium or potassium salts in order to raise the melting point of ash formed. Sulphates, persulphates, carbonates, bicarbonates, chromates, bichromates, borates, perborates, manganates, permanganates and oxidized compounds of phosphorus may be used. One catalytic composition is obtained by adding to boiling water sulphates of potassium, sodium, iron, magnesium and manganese, sodium carbonate and bichromate, and boric acid, the solution being stirred while evaporated to dryness. The product added to water is mixed in the amount of 600 grams per ton of fuel, e.g. briquettes, or it may be added dry to the binder for briquetting fuel.
