489,792. Roller-driving gear for producing slub yarns. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and MIDDLEHURST, W. H. March 12, 1937, No. 7346. [Class 120 (ii)] Apparatus for the production of yarr having slubs at irregu lar intervals comprise: drafting rollers, a clutch through which the front-roller shaft is driven, a recessed bowl connected with a lever or arm actuating the clutch and engaged at irregular intervals by studs on the surface of a rotating patterr wheel to cause the dis engagement of the clutch, and means, independent of the studs, for giving an additional intermittent rotation to the bowl so that great irregularity of slub formation is obtained. As shown, the recessed bowl 10, which is rotated by contact with the usual studs 9 on the pattern wheel 8, is journalled in a bracket 11 adjustably bolted to a pivoted bracket 12 carrying the clutch-actuating lever 16 and carries a spur wheel 19 which is engaged by one or more attachments 20 on the pattern wheel 8 so that the bowl is intermittently rotated in addition to the rotation caused by the engagement therewith of the studs 9 ; the teeth of the spur wheel 19 may be irregularly disposed to introduce a further element of irregularity in the movement of the bowl.
