Abstract
489,604. Motor-vehicle frames. OPEL AKT.-GES., A. Jan. 28, 1938, No. 2746. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1937. [Class 79 (iv)] A motor-vehicle underframe of the kind having a closed box girder periphery and a tunnel for the transmission shaft comprises a single pressed sheetmetal portion with downwardly turned edges which, together with the tunnel portion are stiffened by separate welded-on sheet-metal strips or plates. The main portion 1 is of undulating form being arched to clear the back axle, the edge portion 3 merging from a downturned flange at the front to an inverted-U-form at the rear, the complementary strips to complete the box formation correspondingly merging from a Z- form to a flat plate. The central tunnel 2 is reinforced by a downwardly arched strip 4. Transverse stiffeners 6, 7 are provided, the stiffener 6 forming the heel plate of the back seat. The engine is mounted on girders 8 passed through the box-shaped edge girders at the front end of the main frame and continued to the transverse stiffener 7, the front ends being connected by a box-form girder 9.
