Abstract

488,952. Colouring aluminium. HILL, F., RADLEY, J. A., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 18, 1937, No. 1526. [Class 93] Oxide films produced artificially on aluminium and its alloys are coloured by treatment with a dyebath containing a sulphuric ester salt of a leuco vat dyestuff of the anthraquinone series and developing the shade by treatment with a suitable oxidizing-agent. In examples : (1) 5 parts of Soledon Jade Green paste are dissolved in 100 parts of water and 0À5 part of acetic acid is added. The temperature is adjusted to 60‹ C., and anodized aluminimn is immersed in the bath for 10 minutes. The colour is developed by immersing for 5 minutes at ordinary temperature in a bath containing 1 part sodium nitrite and 1 part hydrochloric acid per 1000 parts water ; (2) a bright violet shade is obtained by substituting Soledon Brilliant Purple 2R for the paste used in example 1.
