Abstract
488,210. Changing signs. BULL, H. S. D. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 127. [Class 3 (i)] In changeable indicators of the type comprising a plurality of display rollers mounted behind windows in a casing and rotatable by means outside the casing, the spindles 7 of the rollers 6 are removably carried at one end in a plate 12 which is spaced away from the proximate side wall 15 of the casing 1, and at the other end in the opposite side wall 9 of the casing. A friction spring 16 is disposed between each roller and the plate 12 or the wall 9, and the spindles 7 may have a squared end 13 projecting through a hole 14 in the casing side or may be provided with a worm wheel engaged by a worm on a transverse shaft squared at an end projecting through the rear wall of the casing. The journals in the plate 12 consist of semicircular bearings open toward the rear, and the casing back may comprise a removable member having top and bottom flanges fitting into the casing 1 and a vertical forward extension which comes up against the spindles 7 to hold them in their bearings. Alternatively the plate 12 is slidably removable and has nearly closed bearings. When worm-drive is employed, L-section bearing strips are provided for the worm shafts and a paper back is fitted.
