Abstract
487,396. Surface carburetters. COREDO, A. P. A. C. ZU, and WILCZEK, L. A. Sept. 15, 1936, No. 25123. Void. Convention date, Aug. 5. [Class 7 (iii)] Air, drawn from a pipe 5, passes beneath a perforated plate 7 through fuel which is maintained at a constant level in a chamber 8 by an overflow tube 24 and a float 22 arranged in a chamber 36 above an unperforated part of the plate. The mixture is freed from drops of liquid fuel by passing it through pieces of metal 9 between perforated plates 10, 11 and around cone-shaped or spirally shaped baffles 12, 13. After passing through screens 14, 15 which prevent damage from backfiring the mixture enters a chamber 16 where it is mixed with secondary air supplied through a pipe 21. The fuel chamber 8, metal pieces 9, baffles 12, 13 and the screens 14, 15 form separate units which are inserted in a jacket 1, around which the secondary air flows. The secondary air passes around pieces of metal in the jacket 1 and enters the chamber 16 past a flap valve 35 and the resistance offered to the secondary air entering the chamber is substantially equal to the resistance offered to the air passing through the fuel and the mixture passing into the chamber 16. The air entering the pipe 5 and the secondary air entering the jacket 1 are preheated by the exhaust gases and supplied from a common pipe 2 to which cold air may be admitted past a sleeve 3.
