Abstract
486,900. Concrete piles. BRITISH STEEL PILING CO., Ltd., and HOOD, A. Dec. 12, 1936, No. 34208. [Class 68 (ii)] A method of constructing a concrete pile in water-covered ground consists in sinking a tubular caisson a with its top above the level of the water, sinking one or more preparatory metal tubes e within the caisson, filling the intermediate space with aggregate g, forming a core or cores f within each tube e, forcing grout through a longitudinal passage in each core and raising the tubes e whereby the grout fills up any gaps between the parts of the core and permeates the aggregate as the tubes are raised, thus finally binding together the caisson, aggregate and core. The core may be made in sections with longitudinal reinforcing rods. The caisson may also be made in sections with rods embedded therein or the sections may be held together by end plates and external rods. Precast concrete units, as described in Specification 370,795, may be used for the core.
