485,923. Covers for inflatable tubes. DIXON, H. S. Oct. 26, 1936, No. 29043. [Class 113 (ii)] [Also in Groups X and XXVIII] Canvas covers for inflatable frame members for tents, posts, boats and similar structures, and of the kind described in Specifications 358,094 and 448,129, [both in Group X], are formed of strips of fabric some of which have the weft running longitudinally of the frame member and others have the warp running longitudinally; this arrangement is stated to prevent distortion. In one form, the canvas cover is formed of two strips d, e, the strip d having the weft running longitudinally and the strip e the warp running longitudinally. These strips are joined along their edges by adhesive and stitching f, two divergent rows of stitching being used at the ends of the cover where a clamping member h, h<1> is used to "stop-off" " the end. The inflatable tube a lies within the cover and a valve c with reinforcement k is provided whereby the tube is inflated. In a modification, each strip is compounded of layers, one layer of each strip having the weft running longitudinally and one layer the warp running longitudinally. In a further modification, the weft may run longitudinally in both strips which, however, are of different textures.
