Abstract

484,614. Bottling ; bottle rests. GIMSON & CO. (LEICESTER), Ltd., and MADDAFORD, J. S. Jan. 15, 1937, No. 1269. [Class 125 (ii)] In a machine for filling or closuring bottles or other containers, the portions of the supporting table which receive the bottles are shaped so that bottles standing in any position are in register, or approximately so, with the operating means. The vertical spindle 1 carries a collar with a circumferential flange 3 forming the supporting table. This has a series of recesses containing pads 14 preferably of rubber and with concave upper surfaces 15; the radius of curvature of the surfaces is equal to the average height of the bottles dealt with by the machine so that the axes of bottles placed concentrically or eccentrically on the pad intersect at or near their mouths. The bottles are carried forward by a conveyer 6 and are guided by the rails 8 to the transfer device and the table 3. The transfer device consists of a star wheel 7 which is geared to, and rotates with the table. The machine part shown in Fig. 3 is the operating unit 13 for applying or removing screw stoppers ' 12 and it travels round with the bottle. After the operation is completed the bottles are removed from the table and passed to the conveyer 6 by the star wheel 11. To prevent the bottles from sticking to the pads 14, holes 20 are made in the pads and they register with holes 21 in the table.
