484,533. Boxes. FIDDES, J. April 23, 1937, No. 11723. [Class 18] Some or all of a number of thin boards constituting the bottom 11, sides 12, and, at least, part of the top 13 of a box are joined by flexible bands 14 of metal, two of which bands lie, preferably, along the transverse edges of the boards. The boards 11 ... 13 are made up as a flat and folded around and nailed or stapled to rigid end members, the ends of the bands 14 being turned under the top portions 13. The bands 14 may be ribbed longitudinally and they are secured to the boards 11 ... 13 by one or more rows of staples turned over on the inner faces of the boards. A lid comprises boards 19 joined by cleats 20, and it is secured in position by inserting the projecting ends 21 of the cleats under one member 13 and nailing metal plates 22 on the other end of the lid to the opposite member 13. In an alternative construction, the lid is part of the flat and the bands 14 serve as hinges and fastening means therefor. The members 13 may comprise two superposed boards with the ends of the bands 14 led over the top board and nailed between the two.
