[Class 27] Coin action, mechanical-connection and multiple-coin.-A coin collector for telephone instruments comprises a casing 1, Figs. 1 and 4, containing a coin-carrier 3 rotatably mounted by means of a shaft 4 having an operating knob 7. The carrier is rocked from its normal position against the action of a spring 18 to a position under a slot 2 to receive two coins. It is then returned to its normal position where the coins remain in suspense on a pin 15 extending from a lever 16 into the carrier, and where they engage and move a lever 10 an abutment 11 on which actuates a contact blade 12 of contacts 13 to open a short circuit around the dial and to short-circuit the transmitter. A call can then be made ; if this is effective, a finger lever 17 is depressed and, by means of a pin engaging an inclined slot 16a, rocks the lever 16 to withdraw the pin 15 and ' cash in' the coins. The contacts 13 are now reversed and conversation can take place. If this cannot be obtained, the carrier is rocked to coin-receiving positions where the coins are lifted, so that they may be grasped, by rolling over a pin 23. In this position an insulated pin 22 on the shaft 4 opens contacts 21 and breaks the line to exchange. The rear wall 3b, Fig. 6, of the carrier 3 has a slot 3c through which a single, if only one coin is inserted, coin moves when it comes into contact with the lever 10. The lever 10 and the contacts 13 are thus not actuated to allow exchange to be dialled. Coin-slit closing-devices.-A shutter 20 on the carrier masks the coin slot, when the carrier is in normal position and prevents fraudulent actuation of the contacts 13.
