Abstract

484,177. Oil-gas generation. GAULT, H. July 16, 1936, No. 19746. Void. Convention date, July 17, 1935. [Class 55 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] A combustible mixture of gases and vapours is obtained by the partial flameless combustion of liquid-fuel with air in a granulated refractory mass, the fuel being poured directly upon the mass. A tube of 30 mms. diameter and 500 mms. length is packed for a length of about 350 mms. with silieo-aluminous material in grams of 5 to 7 mms. diameter. A limited volume of air is passed into the free space in the tube and some ccs. of fuel-oil or gas-oil. preheated to about 60‹ C., arc allowed to flow on to the refractory material and are ignited by an electrically-heated spiral in the free space. The heating current is then cut off and, after one or two minutes, the flow of oil is regulated to 1 cc. per minute and the air, which is at a pressure of 30 to 40 cms. of water, to the rate of about 15 litres per minute ; the flame is extinguished and flameless combustion ensues. The feed of fuel is then increased to 10 ccs. per minute to produce a combustible mixture. With fuels such as tars and refractory materials such as pumice stone, catalytic materials such as metals or reducible metallic oxides are preferably deposited upon the refractory material.
