Abstract

483,937. Boring machines. VOMAGBETRIEBS-AKT.-GES. Feb. 1, 1937, No. 2972. Convention date, Feb. 1, 1936. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A fluid-pressure servomotor copying device particularly for use with fine boring mills has a moving control valve casing follow-up mechanism and fluid-pressure loading device for taking up back-lash in the mechanical transmission between the power piston and the control valve casing. The cutting tool 1 is moved radially by wedges or the like actuated by a rod 4 coupled to a double-acting piston 5 controlled by an auxiliary valve 9. This valve comprises four pistons 18, 24, 27, and 38 adjustably coupled together, the upper pair controlling the supply of pressure fluid, while the lower pair control the exhaust. The exhaust conduit is fitted with a spring-loaded valve so that the discharge of displaced oil takes place under a constant counter pressure. The coupling between the pistons 18, 24 and 27, 38 comprises a rod 45 having right and left handed threads engaging threaded apertures in balls 47, 48 held in recesses in the pistons by screwed ferrules 49, 50. A pin 53 is provided to prevent rotation of the ball 47. The rod is manipulated by a head 40 and is secured in its adjusted position by a lock-nut 46. Chamber 17<1> below the valve member is fitted with a spring-loaded relief and is connected by a passage 64 with the fluid inlet 21 so that a constant pressure is maintained in this chamber tending to hold the valve in contact with a roller carrier 65 which in turn holds the roller 11 against the templet 12. The control valve casing is arranged at right-angles to the power piston to which it is coupled by racks 15, 32 and toothed wheels 16, 17 to give a follow-up action. The racks may be replaced by steel bands adapted to wind on drums corresponding to the wheels 16, 17. The valve member has an arm 42 adapted to co-operate with an adjustable stop 43 to limit the stroke of the control valve and therefor the adjustment of the tool. In order to take up back-lash the control valve casing is formed with a pair of cylinders housing plungers subject to inlet pressure and acting against a fixed abutment.
